Santa visited the Twins!

As you may remember, last year I was hospitalized about 4 days before Christmas with a severe infection that required IV antibotics and daily visits from Infectious Disease and my OBGYN.  And as you may know, Christmas is my FAVORITE!  So to be in the hosptial for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I was HEARTBROKEN.  BUUUUT This year is different.  I am healthy and full of the Christmas spirit.  Christmas music is played pretty much the entire day.  Its magical.
Yesterday (Monday) we had a very very special visitor.  Santa Claus came to visit the twins!  He was prefect.  He came into the house with his jingle bells, red suit, and white beard.  The twins were cautious at first.  Ryan eventually got freaked out and cried and that set Leah off for a bit.  Dale took Ryan into another room and Leah stayed and warmed up to Santa.  After a while, Ryan warmed up too and they had a blast.  Santa even got down on their level and sat on the floor and played with them.  This is one Christmas I will NEVER forget.

Enjoy the pictures.  Merry Christmas!

Party Time!!!

On Saturday the 13th, all of our family and friends gathered together at a local park to celebrate the twins first birthday!

The theme was Mickey and Minnie.  I had a blast getting all the decorations ready for the big day.  Every nap break I spent making centerpieces, goodie bags, and other decorations.

When it came time for the cakes, everyone gathered around.  FIrst we sang to Leah not only because she is a girl (and girls go first) but she was also older.  We started singing and she was just looking around at everyone and loving it.  Meanwhile, Ryan started crying his eyes out! It was so sad and funny at the same time.  Then we sang to him (while he cried).  Ryan dug into his smash cake and loved every sugary bite! Leah didn't want anything to do with it! IT was hysterical.

The twins got adorable gifts too. OF course the biggest hit was the two balloons I bought. haha. go figure.

Here are some pictures.

Clapping hands for Gammom

Lots to update on the Nuggets

The bigger the twins get, the less time I have to sit on the computer and update my blog.  But right now they are napping so I hope my fingers can type fast!!

Leah and Ryan are 10 months old and their first birthday party is right around the corner.  So much has happened in the past few weeks.

Leah is getting more girly and Diva like as the weeks go on.  Every little bump from her brother results in a meltdown.  I dont know where she gets her acting skills from (sarcasm!).  Her eyes seem to get more blue everyday and her hair is growing too! Seriously a cute baby.  She claps her hands whenever she hears someone say "YEAH!!!" and just this week she has sstarted to wave and say byebye.  Daddy worked hard to get her to do that!  Lele still isn't crawling but she can roll around the floor to get what she wants.  Oh and Lele got her first TOOTH! Yes after a horrible week of not sleeping, I put my finger in her mouth to try and feel something and I did! Such a relief to know there was a reason to her crying!

Ryan is all BOY! Even when he plays with his sister's teapot he is all BOY! Rough and playful!  He loves to get tickeled and has the cutest laugh.  He is definitely a talker and we think he is saying "ball" now.  I think his hair is juuuust starting to grow.  He outweighs his sister by about 2 pounds and at their last checkup he was almost two inches taller.  He loves to eat even if he isn't fond of a particular food, he still eats it!  No wonder he is so much heavier!

We had our first family vacation a couple weeks ago.  Dale and I summond up the courage to take the kids to the Delaware Beaches! We stayed with his sister and her family and it was a blast.  The kids slept well which was one of out biggest concerns.  They absolutely LOVED the pool especially the wave pool.  Leah kicked her legs and squealed in excitement as soon as she saw the water.  It was awesome.  We made it to the Rehoboth Boardwalk and even had our first restaurant experience.  While it wasn't the classiest of restaurants (Hooters...I know, way to go Mom of the Year!) it was the only one without a wait to be seated.  The twins even got to sit at the kid table with all of their cousins.

So summer is almost over.  Dale and I plan to take the twins to the beach for the first time this week.  (even though we went on vacation, they never really sat on the beach and saw the ocean).  I am really looking forward to that.

Their first birthday party planning is in full swing.  I have lots to do to get ready.  Invitations are ready to be sent.  Now I gotta plan decorations.

Hopefully I can post again soon.  Maybe one of the nuggets will decide to walk or crawl before their first birthday.  Maybe.

Leah's Serious Scare

I am writing this blog entry so that I don't have to repeat the story another hundred times.  It is really hard to write and to relive the events that occurred yesterday.

Yesterday started out like any other day.  Babies waking up and smiling, giggling at each other, and playing.  My dad came over early because him and Dale are adding to our paver patio.  After the twins woke up from their morning naps, I took them outside and sat them in their exersaucers in the shade to watch.  They had a blast.  Ryan enjoyed watching PopPop and Daddy work and Leah just let her tongue feel the breeze (if you are around Leah you know what that means..she loves her tongue out and especially in the wind...rather dog like hahaha).  Then it was lunch time and I brought them both in and made some lunch.  Ryan ate like a champ (what else is new).  Leah ate but just wasn't herself.  I didn't force the food on her and figured she would make up for it at dinner.  She started whining so I thought she could use a nap.
I started shutting windows because I was going to put the air conditioner on.  Leah just sat on my hip and watched.

Then.... I layed her in her crib because I wanted her to possibly talk herself to sleep.  I started to walk out of her nursery to go close a window in my room.  As I walked out I heard her take a deep breath in.  I knew she was about to have a fit that I layed her down.  But I continued to my room.  But I didn't hear her crying.  Something was wrong.  There was no way she fell asleep that fast.  I rushed in and saw in legs up in the air as if they were tensed and starting to slowly come down.  I rushed to her crib and she was not breathing.  I picked up her completely lifeless body and tried to get her to respond.  Nothing worked.  I was blowing in her face, yelling her name, shaking her.  I called for my dad and Dale.  She was still not breathing.  I called for them again as her limp body laid in my hands.  Her face was turning colors that I never ever wanted to see on my child.  Her eyes and lips were blue.

Finally Dad and Dale got upstairs while Ryan was still in his highchair downstairs.  I handed Leah to dad and he tried getting her to come to with no success.  He started CPR while I dialed 911. He gave her a few rescue breaths and she started breathing but still was limp.  It is the most aweful heart wrenching thing to look down the hallway at your daughter who is usually smilling back at you, just laying there limper than a rag doll.  Finally she cried but it was a strange cry.

The first officer got there and my dad still held Leah trying to keep her awake and breathing.  Dale had gotten Ryan.  Finally we went downstairs as the Ambulance arrived.  I was holding my precious girl in my arms now but she was not herself.  But thankfully she was crying.  I walked outside and realized the severity of the situation when I saw multiple cop cars in our circle, an ambulance in front of my house and my neighbor at the end of the drive way with a concerned look on his face.
We were taken to Grandview where they got Leah stabilized.  Of course now we realized we should have gone to Doylestown because Grandview does not have a ped ER.  DUH! But why the EMT didn't tell us that, who knows.

Leah was exhausted and every time she fell asleep another tech or doctor was in to get vitals or assess her.

The worst part was attempting to get her blood drawn.  I had to leave the room.  I heard her cries that just broke every ounce of strength I had.  Somehow I managed to keep some strength and not fall apart in the hallway.  They failed to get her blood so they called the IV team in.  Well that was a waste! Dale had to to tell the women to STOP and that Leah was not a pin cushion.  She just kept poking Leah trying to get a vein.  She failed big time.  But She was able to get an IV port in Leah's hand in the case she would need and IV.  (Thankfully she never did.  Having her arm immobilized was so sad.)

Finally the CHOP ER doc at Grandview was able to resort to a rather unconventional way of pricking her foot and having the blood drip out that way.  HORRIBLE!!!! My poor little Leah just cried the saddest cry I ever heard.

She also had an EKG and a chest x-ray done, both of which were normal.
After hours in the ER at Grandview, we took an Ambulance to CHOP so they could evaluate her.  We sat in the CHOP ER for about 4 or 5 hours.  Leah finally got a room around 1:30am.  She was happy as a clam at this point.  Laughing at Daddy and enjoying her late night up with just Mommy and Daddy.

She finally passed out as did Mommy and Daddy for about an hour or two.  Leah slept great.  She didn't have another episode.
All of the CHOP doctors she saw agreed that her episode was not related to her VSD (heart issue).  After sorting through the details they narrowed it down to three possibilities.
 1. Seizure - sounds like a seizure except I cant remember if she was shaking when i picked her up out of the crib.
 2. Reflux - it is possible that she had a reflux episode while inhaling and the body's response was to shut down causing her to pass out
 3. Breath Holding Fit - believe it or not, they think this is the most likely case giving her becoming baseline about 2 hours after the incident.  Babies can hold their breath to the point of passing out.  This is usually preceeded by a crying fit which Leah didnt have but they still think this is most likely the problem.

So we got discharged today Sunday around 10am I am guessing (I can't really remember).  When we got home Ryan was still at my parents.  I am so thankful to be home.  With both of my children.
My dad was my hero before this incident.  But now he is also a lifesaver and hero to Leah.  Not sure what would have happened if he weren't here.  Dale and I plan on getting CPR certified in the next week or two.

So that's the story.  Quite an emotional roller coaster.  I took a nap this afternoon and kept reliving the horror of picking Leah up and her not breathing.  I have a feeling I will be having nightmares and not sleeping for the next few weeks.

Thank you all for your prayers.  Le Le is now sleeping peacefully in her own crib with her brother just a few feet away.  Perfection.

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Let the Summer fun BEGIN!!! Oh this was just an absolute great weekend. Dale took off on Friday so we had 4 whole days with him.  It was GREAT!

Friday Daddy had to finish some school work and then we went shopping.  The Nuggets even let Mommy and Daddy enjoy a lunch out at Panera Bread.  They slept so peacefully in their strollers.

Saturday I took the Nuggets to visit Sister Helen and Aunt Odette (and lots of other Nuns) at Immaculata.  They slept the whole way there and when they got out of the car, Leah was ALL SMILES.  Daddy told her to take a look around and see if I enjoy the place.  Looks like he wants to send me there some day.  hahaha.

Sunday was HOT!  SO what did we do? SWIMMING!!!!  Daddy bought a pool at Toys R Us when we went shopping on Saturday.  When we sat in the water they just stared down and then the splashing began.  It was so cute.  MomMom even go to see us swim for the first time.  Daddy FaceTimed her and the Nuggets just lit up.  It helped us get really good pictures.

Monday was our First Memorial Day!!! We went to Grandmom and PopPops and had a mini inside BBQ.  Uncle Don and Aunt Sue joined in for the fun.  Leah actually had her first drink from a cup.  PopPop helped with that.  They also had their first taste of watermelon.  DELICIOUS!

It was a really hot weekend but we made the most of it.

So serious...but they were all smiles when they saw the Sisters of IHM

YEAH!!! POOL TIME

Happy Memorial Day 2012

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is amazing.

Parks are so fun in the Spring

Today was an unbelievable day.  We started the day by going to Mass which is a big deal since we only have gone as a family during Holy Days.  But it worked out so hopefully we can go more often.  After mass we came home and I made a delicious pancake and egg breakfast.  Then we headed for the park.  The twins napped on the way which was great timing.  The weather was unbelievable in every way.  We walked around for a bit until we found the best shaded spot where we put down a blanket and let the twins go to town.  Of course I went paparazzi crazy with the camera.  After a quick snack of applesauce, the twins fell asleep again and we headed home.  When we got home it was just still so amazing that we wanted to stay outside.  Since the nuggets were in a good mood, we worked around the house doing some lawn work.  It was GREAT! And to top it off....they are asleep in their cribs a bout an hour before they normally are.  Lets just hope they stay asleep until 5am tomorrow!

(Side note..I am having a hard time adding pictures...I will try again tomorrow)

Fighting over toys already

The other day I had the twins outside enjoying the fresh air.  They were surrounded by toys.  But somehow they still both wanted to play with the same toy.  Look at these pictures.  LOL.  Ryan won this round.  But let me tell you, usually Leah is the winner.
